Project Manager – Civil Engineering

    • Provide leadership to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the engineering design work to meet continued growth and profit objectives of the company.
    • To aid in the implementation of all policies and procedures.
    • To ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
    • To facilitate good company relations with employees, customers and vendors.
    • The Engineering – Project Manager is selected by, and reports to, the Sr. Engineering – Project Manager.
    • The following positions report directly to the Engineering – Project Manager:
      • None

      • Required: College courses in civil engineering
      • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
      • Required: Engineering Intern (EI).
      • Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE).
      • Required: One-year experience in an engineering firm.
      • Preferred: Three to five years experience as a Project Engineer or Project Manager with an engineering firm.
      • Ability to be multitask oriented. He/she must be able to stay focused on daily duties while being responsive to the Sr. Project Manager – Engineering.
      • Demonstrated ability to manage engineering projects.
      • Technical knowledge and ability in the engineering industry.
      • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from vendors and customers.
      • Technical knowledge of the surveying industry and trends impacting its business.
      • Ability to effectively communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing.
      • Above average knowledge and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D software.

        • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time.  He/she may also be required to stand and/or walk for long periods of time while completing duties and responsibilities.

      • The employee must have the mathematics knowledge to handle the financial and pricing aspects of the position.  He/she must also have the technical ability and memory to perform his/her function.
      • This position will be working in a smoke free office and on site at client locations. When in the outdoors, the employee will encounter varying weather conditions and temperatures.  The normal auto travel hazards will apply.  Travel will be in all types of weather including heavy rain, snow and ice.
      • The noise level in the office is usually moderate but, in the outdoors, or at client locations it can be loud.
    • He/she has authority over the engineering function, as granted and authorized by the Sr. Project Manager – Engineering.
    • The Project Manager – Engineering is directly responsible and accountable to the Sr. Project Manager – Engineering.
    • The primary functional responsibilities of the Project Manager – Engineering – include:
      • Ensure all projects are estimated using the guidelines established by the Sr. Project Manager – Engineering.
      • Ensure that each project has a signed engagement letter prior to the work being started.
      • Ensure that all projects are communicated to the Survey Crew Manager clearly.
      • Quality control for his/her projects is the responsibility of the Project Manager – Engineering.
      • Project costing and tracking for his/her projects is the responsibility of the Project Manager – Engineering.
      • Regulatory compliance for his/her projects is the responsibility of the Project Manager – Engineering.
      • Customer service for his/her projects is the responsibility of the Project Manager – Engineering.
    • The Project Manager – Engineering is responsible for the accurate communication with the client for his/her projects.
    • The Project Manager – Engineering must make every effort to network with potential clients throughout the workday.
    • To design projects with commonly accepted engineering principles
    • Represent clients at required meetings for project approvals.
    • Stay current with new engineering procedures. Attending conferences and seminars are recommended.
    • The duties of the Project Manager – Engineering include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
      • Prepare all proposals using the guidelines established by the Sr. Project Manager – Engineering
      • Prepare and have an engagement letter signed for each new client prior to starting work.
      • Provide a complete scope of work and deadline date to the Survey Crew Manager.
      • Review drawings prior to being sent to the field for accuracy and upon completion for quality.
      • Review all project cost weekly. Monitor actual costs compared to the estimate  to ensure they are on track.  Take immediate action if project is not on budget.
      • Supervise staff working on his/her projects.
      • Must assist the other staff when appropriate with technical issues and also when design assistance is needed with a project.
      • Follow-up with his/her projects in an effort to collect invoices.
      • Be punctual for meetings and appointments.
      • Maintain sufficient contact with the client during the project.
      • Develop and maintain a system to follow-up with prospects and proposals.
      • Handle any customer service issues with assistance of the Sr. Project Manager – Engineering
      • Monitor work of industry competitors as much as possible.
      • Perform all other tasks and duties assigned by the Sr. Project Manager – Engineering.
      • Use commonly accepted engineering principles when designing projects.
      • Attend all required meetings for project approvals.
    • The Project Manager – Engineering of Marbach Engineering & Surveying. shall be deemed to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have been accomplished:
      • Established pricing guidelines and estimating procedures have been used on all projects.
      • The complete scope of work and deadline date have been communicated to the Survey Crew Manager on all projects.
      • Quality has met company standards on all projects.
      • Costing reports have been reviewed to ensure projects have been profitable.
      • Efforts have been made on a monthly basis to sell new work.
      • The Project Manager – Engineering has maintained sufficient communication with the client through the completion of the project.
      • The perceived degree of satisfaction by the Sr. Project Manager – Engineering.
